School History
Ballyboughal National School was established in 1834. The original school building can still be seen in the village where it is in use as a community hall. In 1964, a three-classroom school was built on a new site opposite the church.
Although it was a prefabricated building, it remained in use for forty years, during which time additional prefabs were installed. In July 2004 that school building was demolished and the construction of our present school commenced. The entire school was in prefabricated rooms at the rear of the building site from September 2004 to June 2005.
In September 2005 everyone was happy to move into the present school. It is a spacious building with a hall for P.E. and assemblies, a library, offices and storerooms along with classrooms and Learning Support rooms. Due to continued growth in enrolment, a prefab was installed in 2012. We have now begun the process of applying for two additional classrooms.
